Reaching for Summer
Have you ever planted something new without knowing whether it would survive?
After moving to Wyoming, I quickly learned that gardening here was very different from gardening in Texas with an almost year-round climate. I needed to start over and learn what could withstand Wyoming's long winters and short growing season.
With help from the University of Wyoming Extension Service, I discovered many beautiful native, hardy flowering perennials, including the clematis vine. Its ability to return each year and burst into bloom despite the challenges of this climate make it a favorite in my garden.
Painted in watercolor and ink, Reaching for Summer celebrates that spirit of persistence and renewal. The loose violet blossoms and climbing stems capture the quiet determination of a plant reaching toward the sun after another Wyoming winter.
This original painting is a reminder that beauty often appears where we least expect it—and that growth is possible even in difficult places.
