Gathering Light in A Spiral
Original Watercolor Painting
Some of nature’s most beautiful patterns reveal themselves only when we slow down and look closely.
The quiet spiral of a succulent in a friends garden captivated me, so I photographed it. Each leaf unfolds outward, gathering light while soft shadows settle into the tight center.
Rather than paint every detail, I used watercolor to simplify the plant’s complex structure. Soft greens and gentle pink edges emerged, and the spiral rhythm of the plant slowly revealed itself on the paper.
This painting is part of my Abstractions in Nature collection, where I explore the underlying patterns and essence of plants and nature rather than their literal appearance. Nature is already perfect; my aim is simply to honor the feeling of its beauty.
There is only one original watercolor. When it finds its home, this moment of light and form will never exist again in quite the same way.
