Dancing Columbine
Life has a way of sending strong winds our direction. Don't we all need a reminder now and then that resilience and beauty can exist side by side?
The columbines in my Wyoming garden seem almost alive in the wind. Their slender stems bend and sway with every gust, dancing across the garden while somehow never breaking.
Columbines are one of my garden favorites, reminding me that strength doesn't need to be rigid. Sometimes it is found in the ability to bend, adapt, and continue blooming.
When I moved to Wyoming, I knew very little about gardening in a harsh mountain climate. With help from the University of Wyoming Extension Service, I discovered the remarkable variety of flowers that thrive here, including the beautiful columbine. Over the years, these graceful plants have become one of the treasures of my perennial garden.
This original watercolor and ink painting was inspired by a particularly vibrant blossom whose rosy-pink petals danced in the Wyoming wind. Loose watercolor washes and expressive ink lines allowed me to focus not only on the flower itself, but also on the sense of movement and joy it brings to the garden.
Part of my Fleeting Beauty Collection, Dancing Columbine celebrates one of nature's brief but memorable moments—a flower in motion, illuminated by summer light and carried by the breeze.
This original watercolor and ink painting measures 8 x 10 inches and will be shipped matted to 11 x 14 inches, ready to frame. It will be carefully packaged and shipped free within the United States.
